7-Day Desert & Imperial Cities Tour: From Marrakech to Chefchaouen and Back
Discover Morocco’s most beautiful contrasts — from the Sahara Desert to the blue streets of Chefchaouen, and from ancient medinas to modern coastal cities.
This 7-day tour combines the full Marrakech to Fes Desert Adventure with a northern extension to Chefchaouen, Meknes, Volubilis, Rabat, and Casablanca — offering the ultimate Moroccan experience. 1
Day 1:
Marrakech – Ouarzazate
Depart early from Marrakech and cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m).
Stop at the Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its ancient architecture and movie scenes. Continue to Ouarzazate, visit the Atlas Studios and Kasbah Taourirt, then spend the night in a comfortable riad or hotel.
Day 2:
Ouarzazate – Dades Valley – Tinghir – Merzouga
Travel through the Valley of Roses in Kalaat M’Gouna and the Dades Valley before arriving at the impressive Todra Gorges in Tinghir.
By evening, reach Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara. Dinner and overnight in a charming desert riad.
Day 3:
Merzouga Desert Adventure
After breakfast, enjoy a day of desert activities — quad biking, camel trekking, sandboarding, or relaxing by the dunes.
In the afternoon, ride camels into the golden dunes for a breathtaking sunset and spend an unforgettable night in a luxury desert camp under the stars, with dinner and live Berber music.
Day 4:
Nomad Experience & 4x4 Excursion
Take a 4×4 adventure to explore nomadic life in the Sahara. Visit Berber families, discover fossil-rich areas, and enjoy an authentic desert lunch before returning to Merzouga.
Overnight in the desert area.
Day 5:
Merzouga – Midelt – Ifrane – Fes
Depart toward Fes, passing through the Ziz Valley, Errachidia, and Midelt for lunch.
Continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping at Michlifen and Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco.”
Arrive in Fes by evening and spend the night in a traditional riad.
Day 6:
Fes – Meknes – Volubilis – Chefchaouen
After breakfast, visit the Royal Palace and the historic medina of Fes before heading toward Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities, to explore its monumental gates and vibrant squares.
Continue to the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis (Walili), a UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site.
By evening, arrive in the enchanting blue city of Chefchaouen — nestled in the Rif Mountains — and spend the night in a riad overlooking the medina.
Day 7:
Chefchaouen – Rabat – Casablanca – Marrakech
In the morning, enjoy free time to wander the blue-painted streets of Chefchaouen, visit local artisan shops, and soak in the peaceful mountain atmosphere.
Later, depart toward Rabat, the capital of Morocco, where you’ll visit the Hassan Tower and Mausoleum of Mohammed V.
Continue to Casablanca to see the majestic Hassan II Mosque and Place Mohammed V (Sahat Lhmam).
Optional: One extra night in Casablanca if needed (8days trip).
Finally, return to Marrakech, where the tour concludes.
